Lately, I have been thinking about why people that have bad things happen to them continue to experience streaks of bad luck in their lives.  Why is it that the friends we have that tend to fall for the wrong person continues to have bad relationships?  Is it that these people enjoy living a life of misery or they just like the attention that they receive in having to carry so much drama?  What if I told you that the answer falls in the human body’s natural biology?  What if knowing the conditions that cause these patterned behaviors can help stop these negative cycles?

A little throwback to high school biology…

The human body is an intelligent machine that functions to conserve life and help it thrive.  Because the human body’s number one concern is to conserve life, it has acquired many different survival programs that run on a loop.  One of these programs is the fight or flight program.  This program is amazing! Your body, when facing a threat, let’s just say you are being chased by an armed person, in a manner of seconds turns off your brain and stomach and sends massive amounts of energies to your legs, arms, and heart. You have 2 choices, you can run or fight.  Well something else that your body does is release an amazing hormone called Adrenaline from your adrenal glands. This hormone gives you the extra oomph you need, like Pac-Man’s power pellets, to move and take action.

Another amazing feature that is found in the human brain is an enlarged frontal lobe.  Well, among a lot of other features, we acquired the ability to use our brain to think through situations and find solutions.  The funny thing is that your body doesn’t know the difference between something that you are thinking and something you are doing.  For example, you have a problem with a family member and to avoid that problem you avoid the family member. Problem solved, right? WRONG, now there’s a family get together and you have to see that person again. Before you see that family member again you run through a mental movie reliving the problem, how you will behave while at the get together and everything you will say to that family member if they mention anything to you.  That’s your mind but now your body starts going through the program of fight of flight. WAIT WHAT!? It’s not really happening, that doesn’t make sense. Well, like I said before, you have a large frontal lobe that works like a simulation program.  You are experiencing a virtual reality simulation and your body is doing what it has learned to do.

So, what does any of this have to do with emotional crack?

When a person is addicted to anything, the body does the same thing.  It gets the initial experience, your body releases chemicals, and you feel good and continue your life like nothing happed.  Fast forward a few days later and…something happens you feel down your body says “Hey remember how good it felt the last time we did that? If we do it again, we will feel happy and your life goes back to normal.” So, you do it again but it doesn’t feel the same. Now what, you do more and it feels better and it becomes a cycle.

Those chemical reactions from the addiction can be a large variety. The end result is always the same, a feeling of gratification and peace of mind. What if I told you that adrenaline is very addicting also.   If we are addicted to adrenaline we can become addicted to the thing that makes the adrenaline release. 

The ending…

Emotional crack is caused by the release of the fight or flight hormone. Every time that emotion is triggered adrenaline courses through the body.  Blood pumps harder, the body feels stronger and a feeling of pleasure triggers a new program.  The program causes the increased of adrenaline and the need for the same situations to feel that high. 

The thing is adrenaline has some very funny side effects. Adrenaline causes anxiety, apprehensiveness, restlessness, tremor, weakness, dizziness, sweating, palpitation, nausea, vomiting, headaches and respiratory difficulties. Another thing to consider is the effects of the fight or flight response has on your body.  If you are not supplying blood to your stomach, how can you digest food?  If you are not supplying blood to your brain, how can you think clearly?

The point of this whole article is to explain that like any other addiction; you too can be free of the addiction to your own programed emotions.  You don’t have to constantly relive the same stories or experiences in your life.  It will not be easy, you will back slide, but it doesn’t matter how many times you fall off the horse what matters is how many times you are willing to get back on. You emotional crack is caused by what you have learned and like amazing humans that we are, you care learn something new.

What you can do to help?

1.       Meditate

2.       Write down what you truly desire in your life

3.       Seek a group of people that reflect the life you would like to live

4.       Try different kind of healing modalities, such as Angelic Healing or Hypnotherapy
